11-Year-Old Child Enters Burning Building To Save Sister

(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- In an incredible act of bravery, an 11-year-old child rushed into a burning building to save his little sister. On November 22, Keishauna Banks went to the store to shop for the Thanksgiving meal, according to The Western Journal. The two children, La’Prentis Doughty, 11, and Loyalty Doughty, 2, were reportedly home in the Salisbury, Maryland, apartment.

An outlet in one of the bedrooms on the second floor experienced an electrical issue and a fire began. The smoke alarm went off and La’Prentis ran outside before realizing that his little sister was still in the apartment. Without a second thought, the boy ran inside the burning home to rescue his sister, burning his arm in the feat.

“If I didn’t save my sister, I would be mad at myself because I could’ve saved her easily,” the young man said commenting on his actions. “I could have saved her, and I would risk my life for my sister.”

A report from the Office of the State Fire Marshall stated that the burns La’Prentis experienced were minor and did not require treatment on the scene.

Almost two dozen firefighters arrived on the scene and quelled the raging fire in about 10 minutes. But the home reportedly sustained around $290,000 in damages.

A GoFundMe was set up by Banks to help with the damages and get the family’s life back on track. The statement on the website reads that they lost everything in the fire and that they are in need of clothes and shelter. Words of support flowed through to Banks, commending her son for his bravery. At the time of this writing, their GoFundMe has earned nearly $16,000 of its $25,000 goal.

The young man’s mother said that she does not know how to reward her son for what he did but praises him. Many others in the community have recognized La’Prentis, including the mayor who called him a selfless citizen.
