US Central Command admitted that 11 US soldiers were flown out of Al Assad Air Base in Iraq for injuries sustained during Iran’s January 8 missile attack, dubbed “Operation Martyr Soleimani.” This contradicts earlier claims that “no Americans were harmed.” Earlier this week, US officials admitted that dozens of US service members were treated for concussions in the aftermath of the attack.   1. MEDEVAC is the evacuation of a serviceman for medical reasons and is distinguished from CASEVAC which is the evacuation of a serviceman for injuries received on the battlefield. Technically then, the President was accurate in his statement.

  2. President Trump, as any President, must rely on reports from the military on the ground. The report of no direct casualties from the Iranian missiles was correct. The 11 soldiers were sent to medical facilities for evaluation and possible treatment of concussions from the bombs. All may be perfectly well. On that basis, President Trump made the wise decision not to escalate the situation with Iran. Since then Iran has used critical words only. Iran knows that President Trump is serious and the Ayatollahs do not want to provoke him to take further military actions.
