Katy Tur Doesn’t Understand How Senators Are Elected!

(TheLibertyRevolution.com) – Katy Tur, MSNBC host, doesn’t appear to understand how senators are elected – quite incredible given she regularly uses her slot on national TV to lecture us about politics. On Friday, during a segment on her show, Tur suggested that Republicans only control the Senate because of gerrymandering.

During the segment, she said, “In case you missed it, majority doesn’t always rule in this country…Forty-eight senators voted to remove the President from office. Fifty-two voted to acquit. But the 48 actually represent 12 million more voters than the senators who decided to keep Donald Trump in the White House.”

She continued, “We’re not arguing that a simple majority of the population should decide whether to remove an impeached president from office…That is not in the Constitution. But it does serve to highlight a broad trend in our politics, the outsized influence of rural voters over those concentrated in the cities and suburbs.”

Following her monologue, which plays on this tired argument that more people means more legitimacy (she might deny that’s what she means, but it’s literally what she said), Tur introduced columnist Philip Bump and made a statement so ignorant that it left this writer dumbfounded.

She asked, “So what’s the resolution to that? Is gerrymandering something that would help improve the situation? How does that sort of divide promote consensus in the Senate or even in the house?”

First off, does Tur not realize that gerrymandering is not a term to be thrown around so lightly? Encouraging gerrymandering is not a good thing as it typically refers to a method that involves redrawing boundaries in order to help a particular side win. That’s not something people should be advocating, unless strictly for the purpose of adapting to population changes that occur over time.

In response, the Washington Post columnist responded, “Well, I mean, the only resolution – gerrymandering is not going to do anything because in the Senate, we’re talking about states, right?”

Perhaps that’s when the penny dropped for Tur.

He continued, “You can’t gerrymander states. The only solution is for Democrats to appeal to voters in those states, right?”

The dialogue represents a bitter divide in American society between those who accept the results of an election, and those who desperately look for arguments that suggest the vote should be voided. That is, despite the fact that the president won fair and square and has been in office for almost an entire term.

Tur’s comments are part of a wider trend of Democrats and anti-Trump media pundits trying to encourage discussion about electoral reform. The ultimate goal, of course, is ending the Electoral College and allowing the left-wing cities to decide the results of presidential elections forever.

  1. The dems plan has always been to acquire as many immigrants and illegal aliens as possible as they always vote for dems. State’s like California, with a higher population of immigrants and illegals they can and increase their votes and create a permanent dem stronghold. This is the major reason why they don’t want a secure boarder. They want sanctuary cities for the same reason. We must act now. We need Donald Trump, our greatest president to win in November and continue his efforts in draining the swamp. Dems are very aware of the fact that if Trump wins he will be appointing new Supreme Court Justices that will turn the court into a conservative base that will uphold and protect the future of our republic. We must do our part by enlightening our confused democratic friends and or family members that their constitutional rights are in jeopardy it the dems should win in 2020. The future of our country has never been at such a threat to our freedoms than ever before, even greater than the civil war era.

  2. Maybe she should look at the ratings of CNN that are tanking if MSNBC is not careful they are going to be in the same boat as CNN and be at the bottom of the Barrel and join CNN and maybe put them out of business.

  3. Pure ignorance and presumably she does not understand the word gerrymandering. Or maybe she was thinking of Obama visiting all 57 States and how this might have affected the election process

  4. Any state that says they will give their electoral votes to whomever wins the popular vote is telling the citizens of their state that their vote doesn’t matter. That is just the state government saying FU to what the citizens of their state wants.

    1. I hate that idea.
Let’s have dueling rallies, Trump against any DEMOLOON and see who gets the REAL vote.
Iowa, the state the demoloons hate, Trump’s rally, 40,000+, pick any DEMOLOON,maybe 700 to 2000. (2000)? Probably fake news.

Yes she arguing that because East and west coast cities/states usually have larger populations that they are the plurality of Americans. Doesn’t matter to her that these cities/states usually high numbers of people of dubious origin – and do all those people actually have the right to vote.
Watch out in Nov, the demoloons are working hard to perfect their algorithm at the ballot boxes. Once they perfect skewing the demoloons nomination the algorithm should work perfectly AGAINGT TRUMP.

    1. Stephen – she actually got it backwards – the urban enclaves are the ones that have the “outsized influence” since that gives them the higher ‘popular’ vote totals – which only reflect the influence of their democRAT enablers. But what else would anyone expect from a proponent of ‘democracy’ instead of a Constitutional Representative Republic.

      1. Democracy doesn’t work without educated and informed voters. Democracies fail when the people vote for politicians who promise to provide them with everything free. Socialism doesn’t work because, as Winston Churchill said, “sooner or later, you run out of other people’s money.” When economic growth fails to keep pace with population expansion, economic depression and inflation result, and the economy collapses. Economic growth can only be sustained by continued investment. Socialism squanders wealth and stifles investment. The problem we face in this country today is that the average IQ in our population is being severely diminished due to our reckless, irresponsible, unrestrained use of marijuana and drugs.

  6. Too bad I tried to add my comment, but the democrat who controls this page didn’t like what I wrote, I guess, so he said I was posting my comment too quickly. Yeah, right!

  7. Ever wonder why the Democratic Party fights so hard against voter ID laws and for giving illegals drivers licenses so they can register to vote? Probably because if we only counted U.S. citizens in the census instead of illegal foreign nationals, California, New York, and Illinois would lose a combined 18 electoral votes.

  8. Good Lord above, the level of dumb the MSM parades out is mind – boggling! It must be difficult thinking, hearing and seeing with their minds fogged over with that level of hate. This is also why they want to do away with the electoral college – they can’t manipulate it.

  9. Looks like the democrat presidential remaining candidates have eliminated the black and brown you dumb voters of color better get smart and vote for trump or you may be eliminated
Thanks to the lying Democratic Party

  10. Creepy porn lawyer fooled the dumb CNN msmbc and the view hogs like a genius
He is not smart but they are dumber than rotten stinking porta johns full of shi€

  11. It is amazing to me that someone has a job but has no clue what the actual job is. Apparently someone needs to take her aside and explain it to her, before she becomes a laughing stock

  12. The utter IGNORANCE of so many so called “journalists” in the media today is completely mind blowing! How do they expect Americans to take them seriously when they don’t even know the basics of our government structure? Up until 2016, I had not voted a major party candidate for over 30 years. In 2016, I voted for President Trump. I will vote for President Trump in 2020 as well. He is the BEST President of my lifetime BECAUSE HE KEEPS HIS PROMISES! Will I vote Republican in 2024? I don’t know.. It depends on if we have another GOOD man running in that party or not. Will I vote democrat? HELL NO!!! NEVER!! You can’t trust people who have worked AGAINST AMERICA for over 50 years. They are openly blatant now about their communist agenda.

  13. Well, in her defense, listening to some of them, I wonder how they get elected also. But that’s not her point, is it? It’s painfully obvious from her comments she doesn’t know the difference between the Senate and the House of Representatives. Gerrymandering wouldn’t change things on the Senate side, but it DOES have ramifications on the house side. I know. I’m in a district that at one time was the only one in our state w/ a Republican House member. Our former Dem governor redrew the lines (gerrymandered) my area. Now, short of moving, I’m stuck in a district that will NEVER go red again. . . . . .
