Could Donald Trump Return To Facebook?

(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Former President Donald Trump may soon learn his Facebook fate, and whether he’ll be allowed to return to the massive social media platform.

Trump, who was indefinitely suspended from the platform following messages he sent in the wake of the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, has since started his own social media company, Truth Social, so that he could reach his followers. But, being reinstated on a major platform such as Facebook could prove to be key to him reaching a wider audience in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election season.

Trump has already been reinstated to Twitter under new owner Elon Musk, a platform where he was permanently banned under the company’s former leadership.

In addition to being banned from Facebook, Trump also had his account on Instagram suspended at the same time. Meta is the parent company of both of those social media platforms, and said at the time that Trump was banned because he was inciting violence on their platforms.

In about a month’s time, Meta is set to make a decision on whether Trump will be reinstated to Facebook and, potentially, Instagram as well. The person at the head of that decision-making process is Nick Clegg, who serves as the president of global affairs for Meta and once served as the deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom.

Clegg leads an oversight committee, whose members will ultimately decide the fate of Trump for both of Meta’s social media platforms. Clegg will then likely to pass on that decision to the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who’s also expected to back whatever decision Clegg and his committee land on.

While being reinstated on Facebook and Instagram would certainly seem like a boon for Trump as he seeks to win back the White House in 2024, it isn’t certain that he will rejoin the platforms if he’s reinstated.

That might seem like somewhat of a surprise, especially since Trump was so masterful at using major social media platforms to reach a wide audience and build a solid following. Yet, Trump still hasn’t returned to Twitter, even though he was reinstated to the platform in November.

The decision to reinstate Trump to Twitter was left in the hands of users on the platform. Musk posted a poll asking whether people thought the former president should be reinstated, and 51.8% voted in favor of him being welcomed back.

So, staying true to his word, Musk followed through and reinstated Trump’s Twitter account.

To this point, though, Trump hasn’t returned to the platform, where he once had nearly 90 million followers. Trump has said in the past that he would remain on Truth Social even if he were to be reinstated to Twitter, but whether he sticks to that remains to be seen.

Many people believe that eventually, Trump will return to Twitter to ensure he has a wide social media reach, and he’d likely do the same if he were to be reinstated to Facebook and Instagram.
