(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- In a letter to Newt Gingrich, the House select committee looking into the Capitol riot of 2021 asked for his assistance.
The September 1 letter claims that the former Speaker of the House is aware of and participated in the efforts to annul Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Trump and his close allies have falsely claimed the election was rigged against him.
In the letter from committee chair Bennie Thompson, it is stated that the committee “has collected information indicating that you know former President Donald J. Trump’s intentions to alter the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.”
It says that some of the information they obtained includes emails that Newt exchanged with senior advisors to President Trump and others, including Jared Kushner and Jason Miller, in which he detailed input into television advertisements that repeated and relied on false claims about election fraud in 2020.
Thompson claims in the letter that Gingrich conspired with members of Trump’s campaign to put pressure on officials in states where he had lost to overturn the results.
The letter says these advertising activities did not promote voting for a specific candidate. They urged citizens to get in touch with state representatives and pressure them to contest and overturn the results. These commercials were purposefully broadcast in the days preceding December 14, 2020, when electors from each state gathered to cast their votes for president and vice president.
The letter continues by quoting from a December 2020 email Gingrich addressed to Kushner and two other persons in Trump’s inner circle.
The email said that the objective is to incite the nation’s rage through new verified material the American people have never seen. The American people will exert pressure on legislators and governors if they are enlightened in a way that they find compelling and makes them angry.
In brief, the letter to Gingrich states that he has knowledge and facts directly connected to their investigation.
Thompson claims that Gingrich participated in the now-famous “fake elector” conspiracy, in which Trump’s associates concocted a naive strategy to install pro-Trump slates in the Electoral College in place of the actual presidential electors.
Although it’s unclear if Gingrich will cooperate without being subpoenaed, as the committee has done with other former Trump officials, the letter states that the committee would like to interview Gingrich about what he knows.
