(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who was the cardiologist to former Vice President Dick Cheney for many years, speculated on CNN on Tuesday that President Donald Trump has a roughly one-in-five chance of dying if he catches the Chinese coronavirus.
He told Alisyn Camerota that, should the president catch the virus, he would face a “15 to 20 percent risk” of dying.
The comments came during a discussion about the news of President Donald Trump being prescribed hydroxychloroquine by his doctor. Trump told the media that he was taking a combination of zinc and hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial medicine used widely in Africa, as a precaution against the virus.
“There are side effects to hydroxychloroquine,” Alisyn Camerota said during the CNN segment. “You don’t just take this on a lark. I have a friend who took hydroxychloroquine a few years ago because she was going on a trip and would be exposed possibly to malaria and she said it caused the craziest dreams, horrible sleep, and I read that some of the side effects of mood swings.”
There’s a lot to say about this, but let’s just cover the most obvious: so what if you get crazy dreams if it helps fight coronavirus? Doctors all over the country have written to the president to report positive results from taking the medicine as a coronavirus treatment, and studies from all over the world have indicated positive results.
Dr. Jonathan Reiner jumped in, and responded, “Right, I think the last thing we need is this president to have mood swings.”
Give me a break!
“The drug’s most consequential side effect is a malignant cardiac arrhythmia that can kill you,” he added. “Now, the White House doesn’t really use the kind of rules that we use out in the community. They have 24-hour access to their patient and they can do things that doctors in the community can’t do, so they have ways of actually mitigating that risk.”
He went on to say he agrees with contributor Dr. Sanjay Gupta that the drug is “unproven” and that “no one in this country should use it in the manner that the president is using it.”
He then offered his calculations, stating, “I think his risk, based on all the co-morbidities you mentioned in the lead-in, he probably has a 15 to 20 percent risk of dying of this virus should he contract it.”
True or not, the sensationalism around this issue is incredible, isn’t it? The president is taking a drug prescribed his doctor, which is FDA approved, and which is used all over the world.
