(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- The “climax” of the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s role in trying to overturn the 2020 election on January 6. 2021 is finally here, according to Newsweek. Special Counsel Jack Smith recently subpoenaed former Vice President Mike Pence. The nature of the subpoena is not currently known but the DOJ is reportedly looking to hear testimony about the January 6 riot.
Pence has also written a book, “So Help Me God,” which explains how Trump had allegedly pressured him into preventing the certification of the electoral votes.
Pence has consistently reiterated that as vice president he did not have the power to block the certification of the votes as the vice president’s role is simply to count them as a formality. He also noted that Trump’s lawyer, John Eastman, had also confirmed that doing so would be illegal.
Smith was appointed by the Department of Justice to lead two investigations into the former president on the alleged “insurrection” that took place at the Capitol and the classified documents found in his home in Mar-a-Lago.
While speaking on MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour,” Glenn Kirschner, a legal analyst, said that Pence is a key witness which signifies that Smith’s probe could be reaching the end.
“Often when we’re involved in large-scale grand jury investigations, we leave the most consequential, the most important, witnesses for the end,” Kirschner said, noting that if lesser information could be collected from other witnesses then they can be used to confront those who are most important.
Some Trump supporters did not comply with subpoenas issued by the House Select Committee. Former White House senior adviser Steve Bannon cited executive privilege and was subsequently convicted of being in contempt of Congress and sentenced to four months in jail. Former White House trade advisor Peter Navarro is also reportedly waiting for his trial after ignoring his subpoena.
