(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the president’s senior medical adviser, says men who have sex with men (MSM) should be prioritized for the monkeypox vaccination.
The CDC recorded roughly 17,000 cases of monkeypox as of July 22. (CDC). The WHO declared a global health emergency over the weekend.
This is the first time monkeypox has moved outside West and Central Africa, where it is endemic. Anyone may develop monkeypox, but the present outbreak is concentrated among males who have intercourse with other men. This is according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He said that all nations must work closely with men who have sex with men to create and offer practical information and services and to enact policies that safeguard their health, human rights, and dignity,
Vaccines will help reduce monkeypox globally. Last Wednesday, the U.S. issued roughly 200,000 doses.
Dr. Fauci was questioned on MSNBC if MSM populations should get the vaccination first. He thought yes.
He said if you look at the genuinely broad protective nature, you want to vaccinate behavior-risky folks. MSM taking pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV should be vaccinated preventively.
Paul Hunter, a professor of health protection at the Norwich School of Medicine at the University of East Anglia in the U.K., told Newsweek that the vaccine should be prioritized for persons most at risk of the illness, including MSMs and those who “participate in active sexual networks.”
Hunter is also concerned about transmission in heterosexual networks and wants female sex workers vaccinated.
Many U.S. jurisdictions that provide the Jynneos monkeypox vaccination prohibit access to high-risk individuals.
In Washington D.C., sex workers of any sexual orientation or gender can get the vaccination, along with establishment personnel. MSMs with several or anonymous sexual partners in the past 14 days are also eligible.
Only MSMs with many or anonymous sex partners in the past 14 days are eligible in NYC.
This also includes transgender individuals.
The FDA has only approved the Jynneos vaccine to prevent monkeypox (and smallpox) in adults 18 and older at high risk of infection.
But don’t dare call it a disease of the gay!
