(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Elon Musk wants to know who was behind a letter signed by over two dozen leftist organizations urging advertisers to boycott Twitter if he completes his purchase of the social media behemoth.
Left-wing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) support a boycott of Twitter if Musk takes control of the site, including billionaire financier George Soros and former Clinton operatives and the European Union and the Canadian government.
Musk tweeted on Tuesday and asked who sponsors these groups who wish to regulate your information access? He said we should look into it, adding that Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
According to the letter, which 26 groups signed, Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter would further contaminate our information ecology and pose a danger to public safety, particularly among the most vulnerable and disenfranchised.
With Musk in charge of Twitter, advertisers risk affiliation with a platform fostering hatred, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theories.
The letter also implied that under Musk’s leadership, Twitter risks becoming a sewer of disinformation with advertiser’s brands attached, poisoning our information ecosystem when confidence in institutions and the news media is already at an all-time low. Your advertisement bucks may fuel Musk’s vanity endeavor or hold him accountable. We urge you to insist that Musk respect these fundamental norms of community trust and safety and withdraw your advertising from Twitter if he does not.
The letterhead of the paper has the logos of three organizations: Accountable Tech, Media Matters for America, and UltraViolet.
Accountable Tech is a Washington, DC-based group with ties to prominent Democrats. Jesse Lehrich, one of the company’s co-founders, formerly worked as a spokeswoman for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. He is also the nephew of David Axelrod, a longtime Obama aide.
David Brock, a political operator and Clinton supporter, formed Media Matters for America. The MMFA website is committed to extensively monitoring, assessing, and correcting conservative disinformation in the United States media.
UltraViolet is a feminist movement mobilized to combat sexism and built a more inclusive society that authentically portrays all women, from politics and government to media and pop culture.
Other signatories, such as Access Now, have the backing of the Canadian and European governments and George Soros, the billionaire investor and founder of the Open Society Foundations.
Last Monday, Twitter’s directors approved Musk’s $44 billion buyout deal. The world’s wealthiest man has promised to reform the platform’s content control standards to restore “free expression.”
Liberals are concerned that Musk would reinstate Donald Trump, who was banned from Twitter after the rioting at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, and other prominent conservative personalities.
