FBI Director Says There’s A New Threat Coming From China

(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation inadvertently admitted that he must have had his head in the sand for years.

In an interview with NBC News this week, FBI Director Christopher Wray said when he first became director in 2017, he was blown away by the sheer size and scope of China’s efforts to steal US technology.

Would this be something that surprised you?

How could Christopher Wray make it all the way to 2017 without understanding just how insidious China’s espionage operations in the United States are? Was he too busy looking for mythical “White Supremacists?”

On Monday, while speaking at the Reagan Library in California, Wray had warned that China’s economic espionage has become “more brazen, more damaging than ever before.” He told NBC News that it has become so widespread, the FBI opens a new counterintelligence investigation on average every 12 hours. Currently over 2,000 such investigations are underway.

Wray said while some cases of technology theft involve planting spies within a company, most of the cases involve theft through computer intrusions. When it comes to cybercrimes, Wray told NBC News, China has no equal.

The amount of data China has stolen through hacking, Wray said, “is greater than every other country combined.”

While there are other nations, including Russia, North Korea, and Iran that have carried out cyberattacks on US computer networks, Wray said there just isn’t another country that “presents a broader threat to our ideas, innovation, and economic security than China.”

According to Wray, China’s espionage operation is like East Germany’s surveillance state combined with the technical capability of Silicon Valley.

Wray was quick to explain to NBC News that his criticisms of China are directed at the country’s communist leaders, not its citizens, and certainly not people of “Chinese descent or heritage.” You know, in case NBC News accuses him of being xenophobic.

Wray explained that the FBI doesn’t investigate anyone “based on race or ethnicity, or constitutionally-protected activity.”
