(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- To repatriate one of them to China, the Chinese government filed criminal charges against seven Chinese nationals on Thursday. They are accused of conducting a surveillance and harassment campaign against a U.S. resident and his family.
The Justice Department’s latest case against China’s alleged expatriation operation, “Operation Fox Hunt,” is an eight-count indictment unsealed in a U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, New York.
Quanzhong An, 55, of Roslyn, New York, his daughter Guangyang An, 34, and five other people still in China—Tian Peng, Chenghua Chen, Chunde Ming, Xuexin Hou, and Weidong Yuan—are the seven people accused.
Quanzhong An, the principal suspect, and his daughter were taken into custody Thursday morning. The other defendants are still on the loose. China and the United States do not share an extradition agreement.
Quanzhong An is charged with conspiring with China’s Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection to intimidate and harass a Chinese man and his son who reside in the United States, according to the indictment. Only “John Doe-1 and John Doe-2” identify the father and his son.
To get John Doe-1 to return to the nation, the defendants reportedly forced a family member to go from China to the US as part of their scheme.
The relative told John Doe-2 at a meeting in a restaurant in September 2018 that the government had ordered him to go there as part of a scheme to repatriate the 100 most wanted fugitives, according to the indictment.
A letter-writing campaign that warned that “coming back and giving yourself in is the only way out” was another instance of the persecution the family experienced.
The father allegedly stole money from a Chinese employer, and the son allegedly made illicit gains from the scam, according to a case the Chinese government filed in a New York state court against the father and son.
Michael Driscoll, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York office, said that
the victims, in this case, aspired to escape an oppressive regime, leaving behind their homes, families, and lives in search of a better life here.
The People’s Republic of China sent operatives to the United States to intimidate, threaten, and compel their return.
