(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Monday that he had signed a decree declaring two Russian-speaking eastern regions within Ukraine as independent, U.S. President Joe Biden faced intense backlash for delaying the implementation of sanctions against Moscow.
Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa was among those who criticized the president, blasting him for holding back.
“Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine makes clear he wasn’t going to be deterred by talk only,” he said in a tweet on Tuesday.

“Shld hv imposed some sanctions on Russia 4 threatening invasion as Republicans proposed,” he added.
Shortly after Putin announced that the two Ukrainian regions, Luhansk and Donetsk, were independent, he announced that Russian troops would be entering the region to conduct a “peacekeeping mission.”
The move was described by former President Donald Trump as being “genius,” citing the fact that it effectively allows Russian President Putin to invade Ukraine without actually calling it an invasion. It’s extremely similar to what he did in 2014, when the Russian military annexed the Crimea region of Ukraine.
Biden’s reluctance to invoke sanctions against Russia – which did eventually come – indicates to Putin that the Russian government is hesitant to take strong action against the country if it continues to encroach into Ukrainian territory.
Republicans had argued that immediate action should be taken and a bill was introduced in the United States Senate last week by 32 Republican senators to place sanctions on more than 15 Russian oligarchs and people close to Putin even if Russia didn’t go ahead with the invasion.
It’s quite a remarkable difference to the approach that Joe Biden is taking so far…
After talking tough about Putin during the campaign, shouldn’t Biden be doing a little more than just talking tough?
