(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have brushed off the controversy around Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comments about the United States and Israel – in which she compared the U.S. and the Jewish state to terrorist organizations Hamas and the Taliban – but Republicans haven’t forgotten about it.
House Republicans led by Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida and Jim Banks of Indiana are pushing a new resolution to censure Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, along with her three closest congressional allies in the “Squad.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts are also targeted in the new resolution for their public support of the actions of a recognized terrorist organization. Namely, Hamas.
The resolution refers to Omar’s accusation that the United States has backed crimes against humanity, and refers to Ocasio-Cortez’s inaccurate claim that the Israeli government has committed “human rights abuses.”
Tlaib is also mentioned in the resolution for accusing the Israeli government of “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinian people, ignoring the obvious fact that Israel is the most democratic, free, and diverse state in the Middle East.
It’s an important resolution, but one that’s unlikely to go anywhere given how the Democrats regularly stick together even when a member of their own party has made totally outrageous and egregious comments like this. The “Squad” are hugely popular among the far-left younger members of the Democratic Party, and if House Speaker Pelosi were to turn on them, it could jeopardize her leadership.
Even if it did pass, however, it would not carry any official punishment or consequences. It would, however, show these members of Congress that their comments are out of line and unfitting of members of the United States Congress.
Rep. Michael Waltz, who is a veteran, said that he has witnessed first-hand the atrocities against ethnic minorities in women by the Taliban, and has even been fired at by terrorists who hide behind women and children.
He said that it is “ignorant of facts” and “shameful” for the Squad to make these comparisons.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also described Omar’s anti-Semitic comments as “abhorrent.”
But it’s going to take a lot more than that for the Democrats to care.
