(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- In a January 20 column at Substack, journalist Aaron Maté compiled an exhaustive breakdown of special counsel John Durham’s investigation into the phony Russian collusion scandal and how the available evidence calls into doubt the entire origin story of the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” operation.
Maté explains that as part of his investigation into the phony Trump-Russia collusion, John Durham has also revealed that he is challenging the FBI’s claims about how and why it began its counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign.
Maté believes what’s at stake in Durham’s investigation “is the completeness of the official reckoning within the U.S. government over the Russiagate scandal.” What is unclear, however, is if there will be a full accounting “commensurate with the offense.”
Aaron Maté is one of the few liberal journalists who consistently and honestly reported on the RussiaGate hoax from the start, arguing that it was an abuse of the federal government’s law enforcement and intelligence apparatus to take down one party’s nominee at the behest of the opposition party’s administration.
In his column, Maté described the conflict playing out between Special Counsel Durham and the Department of Justice’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz whose December 2019 report called out the FBI handling of the RussiaGate investigation, but concluded that the investigation was launched in good faith.
It is the “good faith” part of the IG’s report that is the sticking point here.
According to Maté, though Durham has kept a tight lid on his investigation, from what has been made public, it is clear Durham has problems with the IG’s report and does not agree with some of its conclusions, specifically regarding how the FBI opened the case.
The office of the special counsel announced that, unlike the Inspector General, Durham’s investigation isn’t limited to just within the Justice Department. Instead, Durham’s investigation is compiling information from a wide array of people and entities in both the United States and abroad.
While Maté’s column is extensive, it is well worth taking the time to read. He recaps what was revealed in the December 2019 report from Michael Horowitz and he outlines what is known about Durham’s investigation.
He concludes by noting if Durham’s investigation shows that the FBI is lying about how and why it launched “Crossfire Hurricane,” it would be “yet another devastating revelation for a bureau that has already been caught relying on Clinton-funded disinformation and lying about it.”
