(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- An ultra-progressive Democrat who has continually called for the defunding of police across the country called police and asked for special protection at his home.
Recent reports show that Democratic socialist Jamaal Bowman, a freshman member of the House from New York, requested an increase in police protection at his home. After the attack on the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, Bowman wanted a higher police presence at his home, which is located in Yonkers, New York.
A New York Post report cited Dean Politopoulos, the lieutenant dean of the Yonkers Police Department, who said:
“About a week after the Jan. 6th incident at the Capitol, we received a request from the Congressman’s office for increased police presence at his residence. In response, our Intelligence Unit was notified of the request and the local precinct instituted what is called a directed patrol at the Congressman’s home for the next two weeks.”
According to Politopoulos, police haven’t seen anything unusual around Bowman’s home since he made the request for the special protection.
It’s a very hypocritical move for someone like Bowman to request special police protection. While he’s damning police across the country, he’s using his position of power to get extra protection from those same law enforcement agencies.
In other words, he’s willing to put his constituents and millions of other people across the country in danger by defunding the police, while at the same time using the police to protect him.
Bowman can’t deny his strong position against police, either. He’s published it all over the internet for the world to see.
In August, he tweeted:
“Defund the police means defund the occupation of black bodies and the militarization of our communities.”
In February, he said:
“We need to defund the police. Then we need to scrutinize the ones that remain with the full force of the law.”
In April, he tweeted:
“We screamed defund the police so we could reallocate those resources toward something that focuses on true public health and public safety.”
It’s comments like these that had the Post and other media outlets questioning what Bowman was doing by requesting police presence if he so badly wants those departments defunded.
A spokesman for the freshman congressman said he needed the extra protection from police because he “received threats.”
Sarah Iddrissu, his chief of staff, said:
“U.S. Capitol Police advised us to reach out to local authorities to request heightened patrolling of his residence until the situation was mitigated. We followed their advice.”
The Post continued their reporting by writing:
“She [Iddrissu] declined to elaborate on the threats beyond saying they were of ‘varying degrees of alarm.’ Iddrissu also sidestepped inquiries about whether the Congressman’s actions were hypocritical in light of his anti-police stances.”
The New York Times reported recently that most minorities in the country don’t support proposals such as defunding the police as much as some progressive politicians are saying they do.
