(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Last week, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin introduced bi-legislation to prevent the federal bureaucracy from banning gas stoves.
Last month, Richard Trumpka Jr., a member of the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in an interview with Bloomberg News that the Biden administration was considering a nationwide ban on gas stoves, which he described as a “hidden hazard.”
A spokesperson for the Consumer Product Safety Commission later clarified that there was no official proposal to ban the use of gas stoves.
About 38 percent of US households cook on gas stoves, according to data from the Energy Information Administration. That figure approaches 70 percent in states like California and New Jersey.
The Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act introduced by Cruz and Manchin will disallow the Consumer Product Safety Commission from banning both the sale and use of gas stoves or taking action to “substantially increase the average price of gas stoves in the United States.”
In a press release last Thursday, Senator Manchin said, “The federal government has no business telling American families how to cook their dinner.” Manchin said the new legislation would ensure that the American people can “decide how to cook in their own homes.”
Manchin said the gas stove his family uses is “the last thing that would ever leave our house.” He vowed to continue fighting the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s “overreach.”
Senator Cruz blasted “radical environmentalists” whom he said, “want to stop Americans from using natural gas.” Cruz described the commission’s proposed gas stove ban as “the latest egregious scaremongering by the Far Left and their Biden administration allies.
Last week, the Department of Energy released new proposed energy efficiency standards on newly-manufactured gas and electric stoves. But the proposed change will not base the use of either.
