(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Advocates with immigration groups completely disrespected the White House this week when they left a virtual meeting with officials from the Biden administration.
They left the meeting in protest of the plan by the White House to restart the “Remain in Mexico” program that was launched under former President Donald Trump.
According to Politico, the immigration advocates issued a statement that said the Biden administration was “playing politics with human lives.” They read that statement right before a virtual meeting with officials from the White House and Department of Homeland Security was about to begin.
The people then said they can’t “come into these conversations in good conscience” as a result of the administration’s actions.
Right before they left the call, they said:
“We have sadly reached a turning point.”
One of the advocates, Ariana Saludares, is with Colores United, which is based out of New Mexico. The 40-year-old told Politico:
“I cannot stand one more meeting of them pretending. They gave us accolades on the outside, but on the inside, we’re having to take out the metaphoric knives from our back.”
Last week, the Biden administration said it would restart the Trump immigration program in November, as long as Mexico agreed to it.
In August, a federal judge ordered the administration to restart the program. Started under Trump, it requires any migrant who is seeking asylum in the United States to remain in their home countries while the legal process plays out in America.
Commenting on the judge’s decision, the White House said it doesn’t “agree with or support” the policy, officially known as the Migrant Protection Protocols. It did, however, say it would comply with the order handed down by the judge while the Department of Homeland Security appealed it.
In a statement, the White House said:
“We are incredibly thankful and appreciative of the work immigration advocates and organizations do around the clock to improve our immigration system.”
Apparently, tensions between officials with the Biden administration and the immigration advocates have been festering for a few months now. They only came to the surface right before the planned virtual meeting on Saturday.
Many of the activists believe that the decisions the Biden administration is making regarding immigration are rooted in their politics, and not humanity. They also have allegedly said that they believe some officials in the White House think border issues are a losing proposition for all Democrats.
As the strategic capacity officer with the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Luis Guerra, explained to Politico:
“I think they’re afraid of the backlash of anti-immigrant groups, and we’ll continue to remind them that that backlash will exist regardless of what they do.
“We don’t actually believe they’re doing everything in their power to actually restore asylum at the border, the way that they say that they’re trying to.”
Some of the other activists have said that Biden isn’t living up to his campaign promise to institute a “fair and humane” program for immigration.
