(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- A group of former and current FBI officials contacted the office of Republican Senator Chuck Grassley with damning information about the bureau’s efforts to discredit and shut down the investigation into Hunter Biden’s criminal conduct in 2020.
And according to these whistleblowers, the same FBI intelligence analyst who bungled the Trump/Russia collusion probe also used the bureau’s authority to scuttle the probe into Hunter Biden.
The whistleblowers told Grassley that analyst Brian Auten was behind an August 2020 report that the FBI used to “undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation.”
In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, Senator Grassley said Auten’s report caused the FBI “to cease” investigative activity into Hunter Biden.
Auten was also a central figure in the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation into Donald Trump’s supposed links to Russia.
In December 2019, the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General found that Auten “failed to advise” the FBI about the inconsistencies found in the so-called “Steele dossier.” Two months later, Director Wray told Congress that every employee cited in the Inspector General’s report was referred to the Office of Professional Responsibility for investigation. Whether Auten faced any discipline for his actions, however, is not known.
In his letter last week, Senator Grassley did not disclose the details in Auten’s August 2020 report on Hunter Biden. However, he did ask Garland and Wray to provide copies of the documents.
Grassley also cited the actions of Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault.
In May, Grassley had requested the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General open an investigation into Thibault and the other agents who headed up the FBI’s 2020 probe into Hunter Biden.
In last week’s letter, Grassley said the whistleblowers had informed him that the DOJ and FBI are required to follow strict guidelines when opening an investigation and Thibault failed to follow these guidelines.
The whistleblowers also said Thibault shut down an inquiry into Hunter Biden in October 2020 claiming it was false information, despite many of the details being confirmed as accurate at the time.
Grassley also wrote in his letter that Thibault ordered the probe closed “without providing a valid reason as required” and that FBI officials “subsequently attempted to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so it could not be opened in the future.”
