(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- A chairman of South Carolina’s board of elections has resigned after both he and his wife were accused of defacing and removing several Trump/Pence yard signs. Several sources report how a Pawleys Island resident reported how Trump 2020 signs were disappearing from his yard.
After telling the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office about the repeated thefts, the resident set up a camera in his yard. On October 4, that camera caught somebody stealing the signs and even defacing one, writing the word “dump” over “Trump”.
According to an incident report, the offender was identified as Dean Smith. The offender was seen defacing and removing the signs before getting back in his car and driving away with his wife. After it was revealed by local news outlets, Smith resigned his position on the South Carolina board of elections on Wednesday after serving on it for 15 years.
Republican Party officials in the state filed a complaint with the sheriff’s office over the incident, accusing him of helping his wife deface campaign signs – something that brings the board of elections into disrepute.
However, the story from Dean Smith’s wife, Rita Smith, goes a little differently. Rita Smith is a Homeowners Association president and admits that she did deface the sign, but that it came after she received a complaint from a property owner back in September. Smith claims that the complaints were about a resident flying a Trump flag on his garage which goes against Homeowners Association rules.
After the homeowner reportedly refused to take down the flag and allegedly shouted at Rita, she decided to vandalize his property instead.
Is that really much better?
“This is actually an HOA issue,” Dean Smith said in a statement. “We have regulations against the signs. The people that reported this, put a sign on someone else’s property without their knowledge, and they insulted and attacked my wife who is the HOA president and asked them to get rid of the signs. The camera that took our picture was also put on someone else’s property.”
Rita admitted that their emotions “got the better” of them and that they did it because they were “angry with the other resident.”
