(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Senator from Texas Ted Cruz has responded to the criticism from the right regarding Joe Biden’s family vacation to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Cruz tweeted a Fox News segment on the president’s holiday plans on Tuesday with the caption “Enjoy St. Croix” and the emojis for a palm tree, a cocktail, and the sun.
According to the White House, which has defended the vacation, the president would continue to work during the break. On January 2, the Bidens returned to Washington, D.C.
The White House issued a statement, “No matter where the President is, he is working. Over the course of the New Year, the President will continue to closely monitor updates and keep in touch with staff.”
Cruz’s tweet appeared to be a joking response to the Republican’s backlash for traveling to Cancun, Mexico, in February 2021 while a deadly winter storm raged in Texas.
When Texas experienced power outages and no running water during bitterly cold temperatures, the senator faced criticism for leaving for Cancun with his family.
Michele Tafoya, a conservative commentator, said on Fox News on Tuesday that “the optics of this are horrible.” “It’s not just a vacation; it’s somewhere warm and lovely while others are literally freezing to death.”
Cruz’s initial justification for his actions was that he traveled to Cancun to “be a good dad” after his daughters requested a trip with friends when school was canceled.
Cruz acknowledged that he wanted to stay in Cancun for a few more days but left earlier due to the commotion.
Cruz said, “I didn’t want all the yelling and screaming about this trip to take away even for a second from the real issues that I think Texans care about, which is keeping all of our families safe.”
The Republican continued, “It was obviously a mistake, and looking back, I wouldn’t have done it.”
After spending Christmas at the White House, Biden and Jill Biden traveled to St. Croix on Tuesday to ring in the new year. Between 2009 and 2017, the Bidens spent at least one annual vacation in the U.S. territory that is located in the Caribbean.
