(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- On Tuesday, July 6, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Department of Justice for records of communications between the FBI and major US banks that allegedly gave officials data on financial transactions made by suspects linked to the January 6 melee at the Capitol.
In February, Judicial Watch submitted a FOIA request to the FBI to receive the documents. But the FBI failed to respond to the request as required by federal law. So now Judicial Watch is taking them to court.
Requested in the FOIA are all records for communications between the FBI and any financial institution – including, but not limited to Bank of America, Citibank, Chase Manhattan Bank, Discover, American Express – where the FBI sought transaction information from those institutions’ debit or credit card holders who made purchases in or around Washington DC on January 5 and January 6, 2021.
In a statement on July 6, Judicial Watch said that the FBI requested financial data from all customers who fit a specific profile – namely purchases made in the DC area between January 5 and January 6 including charges for hotel or Airbnb.
Calling the FBI’s request an “unprecedented abuse of the financial privacy of countless of innocent Americans,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said the stonewalling from the FBI on the FOIA “speaks volumes.”
Tucker Carlson initially reported in February that Bank of America had “actively but secretly” handed over banking and transaction information for approximately two hundred people who had been in Washington DC at the time of the January 6 melee.
