(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- President Donald Trump has reportedly told the federal government to start a review that could result in the defunding of Democrat-run cities that have allowed rioters to burn down business and destroy lives. It comes as Democrat governors and mayors continue to reject offers from the president to send in the National Guard to quell violence.
Unable to send in federal forces without the consent of state governors, President Trump is now seemingly exploring other avenues that could force Democrat leaders to take action to protect their residents.
In a five-page memo seen by the New York Post, President Trump let Democrat governors and mayors know what he expects from cities and states if they want federal funding to continue.
“My Administration will not allow Federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” Trump writes. “To ensure that Federal funds are neither unduly wasted nor spent in a manner that directly violates our Government’s promise to protect life, liberty, and property, it is imperative that the Federal Government review the use of Federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.”
The order specifically references Washington, D.C., New York, Seattle, and Portland, where much of the violent extremist from Black Lives Matter and Antifa has been experienced. In these cities, looting, arson, and violence on the streets have resulted in businesses being destroyed and many lives lost. They also happen to be Democrat-run cities whose leaders have been vocally opposed to assistance from federal agents.
The memo also says that Attorney General William Barr must compile a list of jurisdictions that have allowed violence and the destruction of property to persist, and which have “refused to undertake reasonable measures” to stop the destruction.
Trump specifically calls our New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, for allowing violence to “spike” while they reject offers from the federal government to send in the National Guard.
“In a 28-day period during the months of June and July, [New York City] arrests were down 62 percent from the same period in 2019. Amidst the rising violence, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Council agreed to cut one billion dollars from the New York Police Department (NYPD) budget, including by cancelling the hiring of 1,163 officers,” the memo explains.
Time will tell how this pans out. Governor Andrew Cuomo has already responded angrily, threatening President Trump by saying he would need an “army” to protect him if he decided to come back to New York City.
