(TheLibertyRevolution.Com)- On Wednesday, President Donald Trump threatened to adjourn Congress to move forward on the appointment of new judges and federal government officials to help oversee the ongoing Chinese coronavirus pandemic. The president warned the Democrats that, should they not agree to the adjournment, he would use his authority as president to move forward anyway.
“If the House will not agree to that adjournment, I will exercise my constitutional authority to adjourn both chambers of Congress,” Trump said. “The current practice of leaving town while conducting phony pro forma sessions is a dereliction of duty that the American people cannot afford during this crisis. It is a scam what they do.”
Trump made the harsh comments during his daily Coronavirus Task Force press briefing in the White House, saying he was happy to make the unprecedented move.
“Perhaps it’s never been done before. Nobody’s even sure if it has. But we’re going to do it. We need these people here,” he said.
The president has been repeatedly forced to take unprecedented and extreme measures to do things that other presidents got done no problem. Constant disruption from Congressional Democrats, since they became the majority in the House in 2018, has been a common theme in Trump’s presidency. And even now, at a time when the country needs to come together to save lives and the U.S. economy, Nancy Pelosi and her congressional colleagues are still only interested in disruption.
Democrats continue to refuse to approve a number of people to key federal positions, and now that the chamber is not in session, the president will be able to exercise his right to make a “recess appointment.”
Trump’s reference to “phony pro forma sessions” refers to tactics used by politicians in both chambers to stop presidents from filling vacancies without their approval. It means keeping the chambers open even when the politicians are at home, to stop the president filling positions in their absence.
He calls it a scam because it is a scam. Democrats don’t want him to make appointments and use pro forma sessions to stop him doing it. Hence his threat of shutting down Congress, forcefully, to allow him to move forward and make the appointments the American people need.
The only other alternative is continuing to battle the Democrats, who will not give in until the president is either removed from office or chooses to appoint far-left judges and officials that they approve of. That won’t happen.
The president explained that the constant disruptions caused by the Democrats means there is “no time for anybody else,” and shutting down congress will allow him to get on with the job the American people sent him to the White House to do.
