(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- The Emerson College poll released on Friday showed Donald Trump five points ahead of President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 rematch.
According to the poll, respondents preferred Trump over Biden, 44 percent to 39 percent while 12 percent wanted someone else to vote for.
The survey also offered a hypothetical 2024 primary match-up which found Trump leading with 55 percent support. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 20 percent while former Vice President Mike Pence came in third with only 9 percent.
The Emerson poll has Joe Biden 13 points underwater, with 40 percent approving and 53 percent disapproving. This is a two-point increase in approval from Emerson’s poll in May.
The generic congressional ballot gave Republicans a 3-point edge, 46 percent to the Democrats’ 43 percent. In May, Emerson’s generic ballot also favored Republicans by 3 points, indicating that the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade doesn’t seem to be hurting Republicans heading into the midterm elections.
In the Yahoo News/YouGov poll released last week, when asked if they would rather see Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis as the 2024 Republican nominee, 44 percent of respondents chose Trump while 33 percent chose DeSantis.
The YouGov poll also found that 55 percent of respondents don’t want Trump to run again in 2024 and 60 percent don’t want Biden to run either.
Among Republicans, 56 percent want Trump to run again while 27 percent do not. Independents are less likely to welcome another Trump run, with a majority, 59 percent, saying they don’t want Trump to run in 2024 and only 27 percent saying they do.
Surprisingly, another Biden run isn’t particularly desirable for anyone. Even 38 percent of Democrats don’t want old Joe to run again in 2024. Majorities of Republicans, 81 percent, and Independents, 67 percent, want Joe to sit it out.
In its hypothetical match-up between Trump and Biden, the YouGov poll found Biden ahead by two points, 42 percent to Trump’s 40 percent.
