Vladimir Putin Self-Isolating After Being Surrounded By Possible COVID

(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he would be self-isolating after several members of his entourage tested positive for COVID-19.

Putin, who is fully vaccinated with Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, explained the situation during a government meeting via video conference after Kremlin officials said the president was “absolutely” healthy and did not have COVID.

Putin views the isolation as “a natural experiment” – an opportunity to see how effective Sputnik V is against COVID-19. He explained that he has a high level of antibodies thanks to the vaccine and can now see “how that plays out in real life.”

The 68-year-old Russian president was scheduled to travel to Tajikistan this week for regional security meetings related to Afghanistan, but instead will take part in the meeting via video conference.

Putin’s self-isolation came shortly after holding a number of meetings on Monday, including a face-to-face sit-down with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He also met with Russian Paralympians and traveled to western Russia to observe joint military drills with Belarus.

It was during his meeting with the Paralympians that President Putin mentioned that some of his entourage had come down with COVID. He said at the time that he may be “forced to quarantine myself soon.”

He made his decision to self-isolate after a fully vaccinated colleague who works in close proximity to Putin fell ill with COVID.

The Kremlin has had a rigorous regimen in place to keep the 68-year-old Putin healthy and away from anyone with COVID-19. The stringent policies the Kremlin implemented include requiring all visitors to the Kremlin to pass through special disinfection tunnels, having reporters attending Putin’s events to undergo multiple PCR tests, and asking those scheduled to meet with the President to quarantine beforehand then undergo COVID testing.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, President Putin’s workload would not be affected by this self-isolation. Peskov confirmed that Putin was tested for COVID after this exposure and his test was negative.

Alexander Gintsburg, the director of the Gamaleya Institute which developed the Sputnik V vaccine, said that, in his view, Putin should remain in self-isolation for one week. Though Gintsburg conceded that the duration will be left up to the Kremlin’s own medical specialists.
