White House Considering Lockdowns Again

(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- As coronavirus case counts are continuing to rise throughout the country following Thanksgiving get-togethers, the White House is apparently not ruling anything out when it comes to mitigation measures.

Late last week, Biden administration officials wouldn’t rule out a potential return to lockdowns because of what they are terming out-of-control case counts and spread.

At a media briefing last week, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House’s principal deputy press secretary, was asked whether the White House was “still categorically ruling out the possibility that we might see lockdowns this winter.” The reporter pressed her on whether the White House would institute any restrictions for members of the press, as they had at the outset of the pandemic in the spring of 2020.

Jean-Pierre’s response:

“Look, as it relates to shutdowns — which is what I was trying to convey to Jeff as he asked me this question — look, you know, we’ve been very clear, Dr. Fauci has been very clear, our public health experts have been very clear. We know what works, and we’re going to continue to do what works, which is making sure that, you know, we do everything we can to get folks vaccinated.”

Later in the briefing, she added:

“We listen to the science. As I said, that is the North Star for us. We listen to health officials. And so, we’re going to continue doing what we know works and continue to talk to the American public about that.”

Jean-Pierre completely avoided the question for one obvious reason — it seems that the Biden administration could, in fact, consider full-scale lockdowns as were last seen almost two years ago.

The Biden administration is particularly worried about the coronavirus as we enter the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, as well as the extremely cold winter months in much of the country.

Some coronavirus case models, such as one recently conducted by the UT COVID-19 Modeling Consortium located at the University of Texas, said it’s possible that infections could reach more than 500,000 per day by the end of next month. If that happens, that would mark twice as much as last winter’s peak.

That particular projection also forecast that almost 4,000 people every day could die from COVID-19 in the United States.

Laurel Ancel Meyers, the director of the modeling consortium, commented:

“The most pessimistic scenarios are scary. And we need to sort of equip ourselves to make changes — change policies, encourage more cautionary behavior — if and when we start to see hospitalizations tick up in this country.”

Meyers reiterated that the most pessimistic scenario the model predicted would happen only if the country didn’t take additional mitigation measures, such as social distancing and masking up.

That alludes to what the Biden administration is apparently keeping quiet for now — that the federal government may try to institute another lockdown or at least masking requirements by pressuring local governments to take action.
