(TheLibertyRevolution.com)- Last week, a single-engine plane crashed near a Westchester County airport in New York, killing the pilot and his sole passenger.
The Beechcraft A36 single-engine aircraft was found just before 11 pm last Thursday in a wooded area near White Plaines about a mile and a half from the Westchester County Airport, according to Catherine Cioffi, a spokeswoman for the Westchester County Executive.
The pilot, Boruch Taub, and his passenger, Benjamin Chafetz, both residents of Cleveland, Ohio, were killed.
The aircraft was flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to the Cuyahoga County Airport in Richmond Heights, Ohio last Thursday evening when around 5:15 pm the pilot reported engine trouble, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory.
The pilot radioed air traffic control to let them know that the plane was approaching the White Plaines airport about 40 miles north of JFK when radio contact abruptly ended.
According to Westchester police spokesman Kieran O’Leary, emergency responders, including police and firefighters, began searching the woods and a nearby reservoir for the aircraft. Since the reservoir is part of the New York City water system, officers from the city’s Department of Environmental Protection were also involved in the search.
During a press conference on Friday, officials said that given the wooded area, drones typically used in such recovery operations were not possible.
After about an hour, emergency responders found the plane by pinging the cell phones of the two men on board.
According to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Chafetz, a tech entrepreneur, had texted his wife as the engine was losing power to say that he loved her and the kids and he was “sorry for everything I have done.”
This week, the New York Post published the flight audio revealing the tense exchange between Taub and traffic control as he struggled to land in White Plaines.
