Florida authorities say Riley John Groover killed his transgender fiancée, Camdyn Rider, and their unborn child before turning the pistol on himself.
On Friday, officials in Florida said that a man had shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child in a domestic-related double murder-suicide.
The suspect’s mother told WTSP that her son, Riley Groover, was engaged to be married and loved Camdyn but that theirs could be a turbulent relationship because they frequently clashed over household chores. According to reports, violent outbursts by Groover were nothing new. Friends say Riley behaved in the past against other persons angrily beside his wife, Camdyn.
According to court records, Groover terrorized his loved ones for quite some time before killing Camdyn.
Deputies said that on September 22, 2014, 17-year-old Groover admitted to shooting five BB pellets through house windows.
Camdyn, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the shooting, was changing from female to male.
Since Groover has a history of violence, including charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence, the police treat the horrific incident as a domestic dispute.
Unfortunately, despite police and medical personnel’s best efforts, the unborn child did not survive.
Sheriff Grady Judd described the double homicide that took the life of a 21-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant and her unborn child as “violent and horrific.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said that before 7 p.m., Riley, 26, fatally shot his wife in front of many witnesses outside their home in the Inwood neighborhood of Winter Haven.
A neighbor who heard the gunshots said Groover said, “I’m gonna kill you,” as he ran out of the house after the pregnant lady.
Groover was previously arrested for both domestic violence and aggravated assault. According to authorities, the 21-year-old woman who was slain on Friday was not connected to any of those occurrences.
