The United States remains polarized, engulfed in a tense political battle and a steep cultural war which grows deeper in division with each day. While political unrest had started to grow on a broader scale in the early 2010’s, following the election of the 45th President, Mr. Donald Trump in November 2016 things truly began to spiral. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the widespread civil unrest that followed during the summer, and the 2020 election which ousted Trump from office the nation remains deadlocked in a political and cultural battle. In recent developments, four criminal indictments have been levied against Mr. Trump. One of these indictments originates in the state of Georgia and is based around the assertion that the former president sought to unlawfully interfere with and overturn the results of the 2020 election. Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing and calls the charges an unfair and politicized perversion of the law.
Trump refuses to back down, and instead has once again repeated his claim that the 2020 election was stolen. On August 15th, Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he would be releasing yet another report that would prove significant election irregularities. Trump stated that a sizeable summation on the 2020 election in the Peach state which demonstrates fraud would be presented on Monday, August 21st in Bedminster, New Jersey. Trump has since decided against sharing his document and cancelled the press conference following advice from his attorneys.
Regardless of the fact that the conference was cancelled, it goes without saying that much of the American electorate is extremely weary and tired of hearing about the last presidential election which occurred three years ago. While Mr. Trump continues to command the support of a large portion of the Republican electorate, independent voters which are necessary for him to win the presidency in 2024 may be soured by his consistent rantings over the past election results.
